Administrative / biographical background:

The flight testing of aircraft is carried out in accordance with the procedures set out in British Civil Airworthiness Requirements, Chapter A5-2 and covers the following:

  • Prototype aircraft of United Kingdom and foreign construction under investigation for the issue of a Certificate of Airworthiness;
  • Modifications to aircraft and Prototype (Modified) aircraft of United Kingdom and foreign construction under investigation for the issue of a Certificate of Airworthiness;
  • Series aircraft of United Kingdom and foreign construction, under investigation for the issue of a Certificate of Airworthiness;
  • Aircraft being flown on flight tests for continued airworthiness.

The tests are carried out by the Civil Aviation Authority's own test pilots or a Civil Aviation Authority approved test pilot. In all cases a Civil Aviation Authority flight test engineer is in attendance.
