Details of MR 1/7
Reference: MR 1/7
Description:

Plan of Methwold Warren, Norfolk, showing fields in strips; villages of Methwold, Feltwell, Hockwold and Weeting; dyke, boundaries, land claimed by Sir Hugh Luttrell. Churches, houses, cross, drawn in bird's-eye view. No scale shown. [Oriented to the east.] West, south, and south-east shown. Endorsed: 'No 59 Methwold'.

A court roll of 1426 (DL 30/103/1423) refers to a Hugh Luttrell encroaching on the warren; however, the map appears to be of somewhat later date; the parcel of land called 'Southalle' cited on the court roll is not evident on the map, although this may be because many text labels on the map are illegible through gall. The map does not appear to be related to a case of enclosure by Methwold villagers brought before the Duchy of Lancaster court in 1532 (see DL 5/5, f 499), which concerns pasture land rather than the arable land.
