Description:

Medical journal of the Norfolk, convict ship from 27 April to 28 September 1835 by Arthur Savage, surgeon and superintendent, during which time the said ship was employed in conveying convicts and troops to New South Wales and Van Dieman's Land.

Folios 2-3: case no 1, John Hanrahan, aged 12, soldier's son; taken ill at Deptford; sick or hurt, cynanche tonsillaris; put on sick list 28 April 1835, discharged 7 May 1835 cured.

Folios 3-4: case no 2, Roger Whitehead, aged 55, convict; taken ill at Woolwich; sick or hurt, asthma, on the 3rd of May found himself better at 7 pm. found dead in his berth having been spoken to about ten minutes previous, I conjecture from lividity of lips and swelling of the limbs combined with the asthmatic symptoms, some extensive disease of the heart existed; put on sick list 1 May 1835, died 3 May 1835.

Folio 20: Robert Hide (Eddy), aged 20, private 28th Regiment, pension not granted; wound or hurt, wound of the right wrist received while on his post on the quarter deck by the accidental discharge of a pistols.

Folios 20-21: Surgeon's general remarks. The ship's crew consisted of 42, the troops 32 accompanied by 7 women and 13 children. The convicts 280, in all 376. Of all the convicts two appeared on embarking to be ill adapted for the voyage. The English convicts (230 in number) refused to eat oatmeal.
