Description:

1 item extracted from AO 13/72 part 4. 'Map of the City and Liberties of Philadelphia With a Catalogue of Purchasers' surveyed by John Reed and engraved by James Smither. Scale: 1 inch to 100 perches. Title in a rococo cartouche surmounted by the city arms: decorated with the figure of an Indian, trees, a globe, a draped male figure, ship with a Union flag and scrolls bearing the words 'Charter', 'Concessions', 'Concealed'. Tables of purchasers and lessees, with acreage, and extracts from William Penn's appointment of commissioners to survey the city. Compass roses. Dedicated to 'the Honourable House of Representatives of the Freemen of Pennsylvania'. Inset are drawings of the State House, the Hospital, the House of Employment and the Alms House. One of three sheets the others being, MPI 1/1 and MPI 1/408.
