1 item (originally enclosed in despatch number 3, 16 January 1917) extracted from FO 262/1301 (folio 37). Japan. 'Map of the City of Tokyo': street plan, showing railways, rivers and wards (named); also marking the locations of the city centre, land owned by Mitsubishi, the business area (Marunouchi), and important buildings (e.g. hotels, embassies, banks, government offices, clubs, business headquarters, etc). Reference table; key to numbered buildings. Compass indicators. Endorsement: detailed plan of the business area; scale: 1 inch to 50 ken [1 inch to about 300 feet]. The despatch also contained a report justifying the establishment, in 1915, of a [British] Vice-Consulate.
