Description:

2 items (originally illustrating notes of a Franco-British conference on plans for military intervention in the event of a German invasion of Belgium, held at Le Cauroy, 13 October 1939) extracted from WO 197/17. Western Europe. (1) Map, cut from a larger sheet, covering the area between Ostend (Oostende), in Belgium, Cologne (Köln) in Germany, Luxembourg, and Noyon, in France; sepia reproduction. (2) 'Carte de France et des Pays limitrophes au 500.000e': sheet NM 31-NE ('Lille - Bruxelles [i.e. Brussels, Belgium]') only of a map on multiple sheets, covering the area between Cambrai, France, in the south-west, and Arnhem, Netherlands, in the north-east. Heliographed, coloured. Reference tables to adjoining sheets and to the corresponding sheets of the International Map of the Worlds. Scale: 1:500,000. Compiled, heliographed and published by the Service Géographique de l'Armée, 1930. Different MS additions, coloured, to each item, marking details of the intervention plans; the additions to item 2 also highlighting waterways. Dimensions: (1) 34 cm x 44 cm; (2) 47 cm x 45 cm.
