'The Situation of the towne of Axell 24 July 1586' (endorsement): map of an area of Zeeland (now in the Netherlands) between Axel, Hulst and the coast, showing defences, place names, waterways, and ships in the Westerschelde. Scale: 4 inches to 1 mile. The scale shown makes Axel and Hulst appear about two miles apart; the true distance is about seven miles. Compass indicator. Signed by J Simermans, 1586. |
