Details of E 314/40
Reference: E 314/40
Description:

Legal Proceedings

Note: General Surveyors: Items (1) to (59) have similar filing holes, and some were found together among records of the Treasury of Receipt. Few are dated, but those which are, show considerable variation in date: e.g. (46) refers to a feat `last past' in the15th year of King Henry VIII whereas (38) concerns lands late of Whalley abbey. This suggests that these documents come from several different original files or bundles of the General Surveyors' proceedings, but many are inter-related as shown by the cross-references. Items (29) - (33) are filed in reverse order of presentation, but listed chronologically. Items (61) to (82) appear to form part of a single, broken file for Michaelmas, 24 Hen. VIII. Items (103) -(112) appear to be detached from commissions of Dedimus protestatem.
