Administrative / biographical background:

Industries Division 1 was formed in January 1968, replacing the Industries and Manufactures Department. Responsibilities of the Industries Division branches were briefly transferred to the Ministry of Technology (Mintech) in 1969 and IND 1 became part of a new Chemicals and Textiles Division (CT Division). When Mintech was abolished in 1970, the Chemicals and Textiles Division was transferred to the newly created Department of Trade and Industry.

Industries Division 1 was responsible for matters concerning commodities, mainly textiles, leather, flax, hemp, jute, chemicals, rubber and tobacco.

Industries Division 2 was responsible for the paper, board, leather and furniture industries.
