Title: Accounts: Journal and Warrant Books-Home
Description:

This subseries consists mainly of journals but also of some warrant books. The journals are chronological account books. Most begin with a list of sundry accounts brought forward to be balanced, followed by accounts for ships' supplies and voyages, and payments listing persons, purchases and prices of felt and beaver hats laced with silver, silk handkerchiefs, cloths, damasks, Colchester bays, spirits, muskets, pistols, buccaneer guns, cutlasses, iron kettles, brass pans; and payments for sugar, indigo and cotton from Jamaica. Warrant books are books of copies of warrants addressed to the Treasurer of the Company, instructing him to pay sums of money to named individuals for goods or services. These might be towards salaries; or for goods ranging from beer, cheese and stockfish and biscuits for 'negroes', to brooms and mops or swords and belts, lead, oil, small arms and candles.
