Catalogue description Accounts: Cash Books

This subseries consists of cash books, on the left hand pages of which are listed dated and itemised cash debtors (receipts, often the proceeds of sales). On the right hand pages are listed dated and itemised cash per contra creditors (payments, usually for freight of slaves, fitting out ships, wages, etc). The accounts are examined and allowed by auditors. Also included are Bank of England pass books, which are account books supplied by the bank to its customers (in this case the Company) containing entries of all deposits and withdrawals, the left hand page showing debtors (receipts into the account), the right hand page creditors (payments from the account, mainly for goods).
