Kingdom of Sicily (now part of Italy). 'Plan of the Environs and Defences of Messina'. Scale: 2.9 inches to about 1,000 feet. Compass indicator. Signed by Captain Charles Lefebure, Commanding Royal Engineer. A note on the dorse refers to: '... plans and sections of Forts From No. 1 to No. 8 inclusive'. This map is labelled number 1; numbers 2-8 are probably the seven drawings now in WO 78/884
