Description:

Russian Empire: Saint Petersburg. Russian-language map of the city and its environs, showing buildings; on 24 sheets joined to form two large sheets. Reference table to sheet (1). Piano-key-style border. Scale: 1 inch to 350 feet. Surveyed by Korovnikov, Topographer 1st Class; drawn under the direction of Major General Schubert, 1828; engraved at the [Russian] Military Topographical Depot. Inset to sheet (2): triangulation diagram. A small, printed map of the city, with MS colouring depicting fire information, is affixed to the face of sheet (1). According to the War Office map docket book (which was the original means of reference to the War Office maps), this map was received from the Imperial Russian Government in exchange for Ordnance maps, as determined by an order of the Board of Ordnance, 31 October 1834.
