Description:

North America. 'Map of the Country from the 40th. Deg of Latitude to Lake Ontario comprehendg New York, Jersey & Pennsylvania, with the residences of the Six Nations [of the Iroquois Confederacy]...': showing a boundary line extending from Fort Stanwix (now Rome) to Harts Rock on the Ohio River west of Fort Pitt (now Pittsburgh); (the area covered subsequently became part of the United States of America). A note states that the boundary line continues along the Ohio River to the mouth of the Cherokee River. Scale: 1 inch to about 17.5 miles. Copied from an original map drawn at Fort Stanwix by Guy Johnson, October 1768; this copy by W Hall, Quebec, 1794. Endorsed with a note: 'This is the Map wh. was laid before the Inds when the Boundary Line was agreed upon by them at Fort Stanwix Novbr ye 4th & 5th 1768 & then marked by me in their presence as it now is'; (signed): W Johnson. Certified, on the dorse, as a true copy by William Hall, Draughtsman, by John Collins, Deputy Surveyor General, and by Lieutenant Colonel Gother Mann, Commanding Royal Engineer, Quebec, 15 January 1795.
