Correspondence from Thomas Parry, archdeacon of Barbados, David Davis, archdeacon of Antigua, and William Piercy Austin, archdeacon of British Guiana, subsequently appointed bishops of those dioceses, on matters relating to the division of the former diocese of Barbados and the Leeward Islands, and the appointments of new archdeacons, Charles Lawson (Barbados), Robert Holberton (Antigua) and Francis Brathwaite (St Christopher). Also includes:

  • Correspondence with the Law Officers concerning legislation required for the division of the diocese, draft legislation, and a printed copy of 5 Vic Cap IV, 'An Act to provide for the Increase of the Number of Bishoprics and Archdeaconries in the West Indies, and to amend the several Acts relating thereto'
  • Coloured design of an official seal for the Diocese of Antigua prepared at the Heralds Office
  • A note that subsequent ecclesiastical correspondence will be found among the correspondence of the colonies concerned, the bishops having been instructed by the secretary of state on 16 July 1843 to correspond through the governors
