In Letters from various persons.

  • Addressed to Lieutenant Colonel Evans and Major Shaw, successive Assistant Quarter Masters General at Abbeville.
  • They relate to the movement, quartering and embarkation of troops at Calais and Boulogne prior to departure for England. Regiments were mentioned by number but were mainly moving as brigades.
  • Many letters were from Lieutenant Colonel Sir J Dickson at Boulogne. Other writers include General Sir [Edward] Barnes, General Sir Denis Pack, Lieutenant Colonel Sir Charles Broke [Assistant Quarter Master General], Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Hunter Blair, Captain George Villiers [Royal Horse Guards], Captain [Edward] Northey [52nd Regiment], Captain Read (Royal Staff Corps), Cornet William Blathwayt (3rd Dragoons) and local French officials (mainly in French).
