Description: | HO 42. Letters and papers. Piece described at item level. |
Note: | With the adherence of the Portland Whigs to Pitt's government, Henry Dundas was replaced as Home Secretary by the Duke of Portland on 11 July 1794. This piece, covering the whole month of July, straddles that change. Dundas moved to a new secretaryship of state for War, taking with him Evan Nepean and William Huskisson from the Home Office. To limit repetition in the Catalogue, where correspondence has been addressed to the Home Secretary himself, the addressee has not normally been stated at item level. Other addressees within the Home Office have been stated where identifiable. Home Office material continued to be addressed to Dundas, Nepean and Huskisson for some time after 11 July 1794; in such cases they are identified as [former officeholder as applicable]. Original addressees outside the Home Office of material subsequently passed there, are always stated where identifiable. |
Date: | 1794 July 01-1794 July 31 |
Arrangement: |
The digital images of these records were taken from old microfilm copies. A later cataloguing project restored the chronological arrangement of the papers and re-foliated the pages. As a result, the folio numbering of the catalogue descriptions for individual items does not match the numbering of the digital images, and some images may appear out of sequence. |
