Administrative / biographical background:

This is part of the National Scrapie Plan (NSP). It is a long term plan which consists of a number of genotyping scheme and initiatives designed to reduce the prevalence of scrapie in the national sheep flock. The NSP was introduced following advice from independent experts on Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSE) in order to be able to control and elimate scrapie. The NSP was launched in July 2001
