Administrative / biographical background:

In April 2001, the Minister for Employment Tessa Jowell, announced that Denise Kingsmill, Deputy Chairman of the Competition Commission, had been appointed by the Government to head up the Women's Employment and Pay Review. The Review was intended to examine women's participation in the labour market and to recommend ways of reducing the pay gap between men and women, making more effective use of all employees' skills and experience, developing and promoting good practice and increasing general awareness of equality issues. The resulting report was published in December 2001.

The snapshots for this website were taken after the Department for Education and Employment (DfEE) was reorganised in 2001, but all the snapshots represent a DfEE initiative carried out prior to this reorganisation.
