Administrative / biographical background:

The Judicial Studies Board (JSB), established in 1979, is responsible for the training of the judiciary, including judges in Crown, County and higher courts in England and Wales, and also the training of lay magistrates and the chairmen and members of tribunals. The JSB is an independent judicial body and part of The Directorate of Judicial Offices for England and Wales. It draws its funds, staff and much of its corporate support directly from the Ministry of Justice.
