Description:

Folios 194-195: Robert Stopford, HMS Spencer, Spithead.

Reports his arrival in port, in company with HMS Theseus. Enclosing a copy of Rear Admiral Murray's order for him proceeding from Table Bay. He found no shipping at St Helena, and left as soon as he had completed the water, feeling he should not comply with Governor Patten's request that he wait for the first ships to arrive from China, as this was uncertain. Encloses his log, for the period from leaving Falmouth on 12 November 1806 onwards [not now present]. Notes that a seaman named William Thomas, of HMS Nereide, having been found guilty by court martial of desertion, has been brought back to England and awaits execution of his sentence.

Folios 196-197: enclosure with folios 194-195. Copy of Admiral George Murray's orders to Stopford, dated 28 March 1806, aboard HMS Polyphemus at Table Bay. He is to proceed with HMS Theseus to St Helena, complete water there, and thence to Spithead. Should there be ships waiting at the island he may take them under convoy but is not to wait there longer than it takes to complete the water.
