Administrative / biographical background:

The Arms Control and Disarmament Research Unit (ACDRU) was established in 1965 by the then Labour government which sat within the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). The Unit undertook research into the long-term implications of disarmament.

ACDRU was later re-named to the Arms Control and Disarmament Department (ACDD). The Unit was later absorbed into another department within the FCO
