| Selection and destruction information: | PTM files were very routine in nature, but the one file that relates to the making of a grant by the West Yorkshire PTA to the Settle and Carlisle railway line has been recommended for preservation due to the historical importance of, and public interest in, the line. Three other files have been recommended as they place the grant making process in an understandable context. |

The Local Government Act 1985 abolished the Metropolitan County Councils and re-distributed their functions. Public transport functions went to joint Public Transport Authorities (PTAs). The Transport Act 1985 also removed Metropolitan County Councils' bus operating powers. The Public Transport Metropolitan Division was set up, out of the Passenger Transport Division, to oversee the transitionary period. In 1994 the Passenger Transport Metropolitan (PTM) Division was absorbed into the Buses and Taxis Division. |
