Captured ship: Concordia, Arendt Buck, master.

History: Bremen merchant ship bound from St Eustatius to Amsterdam laden with sugar, coffee and cotton, captured on 6 April 1758 between Beachy Head and Dungeness by the John & Stephen privateer (Richard Ball, commanding) and taken into Dover.

Documents (Papers of Henry Balthazar Duprat, formerly master of Le Constant, a passenger in Concordia at the time of her capture):

  • three pictures: a flaming heart, portrait, coastal view of ‘Ille Palme’ (nos. 29-31),
  • notebook. Tucked inside are a letter to Duprat, and nine playing cards, the court cards are a queen of spades, king of diamonds, jack of hearts and a king of spades, all Provence pattern: they have been used as records of goods and food vouchers.
  • ten account books (nos. 33-42),
  • two cargo manifests of Le Constant (nos. 43 and 44),
