Folio 316: An account of the Court Martial proceedings on the Neptune. President: George Rooke, Vice Admiral of the Blue. Hugh Baker, Pilot of the Royal William, was accused of allowing the ship to go aground and was Acquitted. Captain Robert Arthur was accused of embezzling stores, when stationed in Barbados and was found guilty. He was dismissed the service, forfeits his pay and fined the cost of the stores. Captain John Bumsted, the Jersey. Accused of surrendering his ship to the French in the West Indies he was found guilty of neglect of conduct and cowardice and sentenced to be shot under articles 10 and 16. Lieutenant Charles Farre, the Jersey, was reprimanded for failing to correct the faults of the Captain Brinsted and was reprimanded and discharged. Charles Christian, the Windsor Castle was accused of buggery with his servant Richard Smith, who was 16. He was found guilty and sentenced to hang.
