Description:

The work on tax credits was undertaken on the recommendation of the Finer Committee which reported on the future of taxation and benefits for the family. Initially work concentrated on the Green paper on the Taxation of the Family, in which bilateral discussions and an interdepartmental working group on taxation were established, of which in the latter case, the Inland Revenue was the main steer. Files selected centre on those proposed changes which affected DHSS legislation and areas where the department took the lead.
