Custodial history: The records were transferred to the Department of Trade and Industry when the BFFA was wound up in 1987. They then passed to the Department of National Heritage in 1994 and subsequently to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport in 1997.

The British Film Fund Agency was set up in 1957 as the successor to the British Film Production Fund. Its main function was to allocate grants to British film production companies thereby encouraging the British film industry. It was abolished in 1987, when its assets were transferred to the Department of Trade and Industry.
