The General Agricultural Policy Division was set up in 1979, following the full transfer of responsibility for agriculture and fisheries to the Welsh Office. Initially, the division was responsible for the co-ordination of agricultural policy and liaison with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food. It also had responsibilities for EC agricultural schemes, dealt with emergencies and environmental aspects of agriculture. It had responsibility for fisheries in Wales. The division was disbanded in 1984 following a re-organisation of the whole Agriculture Department and its functions distributed throughout the new department. By that time, its responsibilities had been widened. |
