Catalogue description DETACHED SQUADRONS

The reports from the great majority of `detached squadrons', whether under Admiralty orders or detached by a commander-in-chief wishing to divide his forces, will be found under the appropriate geographical command. ADM 1/3232 contains a few letters from detached squadrons in 1813 and 1814, but otherwise these are entirely from the Experimental Squadrons assembled nearly every summer between 1827 and 1837 for trials of various new designs of warship. Papers concerning the 1827 Experimental Squadrons are in ADM 1/3544.
