Catalogue description LETTERS FROM UNEMPLOYED ADMIRALS

These letters were written, mostly but not entirely on official business, by unemployed flag officers. Some of them concern the affairs of their recent commands and continue a correspondence begun elsewhere in this class. ADM 1/577 includes letters fromsome flag officers in service, the conclusions of several councils of war, and some letters from Admiral Lord Torrington when First Lord of the Admiralty, 1727-1733. Throughout this section are scattered reports of committees composed of or presided over by flag officers on half pay.
