Reports from the senior officers in Newfoundland waters. For most of this period they were also governors of the colony, and in principle corresponded with the Admiralty in one capacity, and the Secretary of State in the other. In practice there was some overlap. For a `statistical account of the French and British Fisheries', 1774, see ADM 1/5117/4. ADM 12/1-4 is an index to ships mentioned in flag officers' reports, 1711-1793.
