Title: LETTERS FROM ADMIRALS ETC. - CAPE OF GOOD HOPE
Description:

ADM 1/54 contains papers relating to three expeditions: Keppel's of 1758 to Senegal (including captured correspondence and papers), Johnstone's of 1781 to the Cape (with subsequent correspondence concerning it) and King's of 1783 to the Cape (also with subsequent correspondence). The remaining pieces contain reports of the successive commanders-in-chief or senior officers of the Cape station, established by the first British capture of Cape Colony in 1795, and re-established by the second capture in 1806. The West Africa station and the greater part of the Indian Ocean were for most of this period subordinate to this command. ADM 12/1-4 is an index to ships mentioned in flag officers' reports, 1711-1793.
