The Lymington Railway was incorporated by their act of 1856. It was acquired by the London and South Western Railway in 1878 under powers obtained by the South-Western Railway (General) Act 1860. The London and South Western Railway was absorbed by the Southern Railway Company in 1923. The Southern Railway was absorbed by the British Transport Commission in 1948.
