Administrative / biographical background:

The Sea Fish Industry Authority (SFIA) was established in 1981 under the Fisheries Act to promote the efficiency of the sea fish industry and to serve the interests of that industry as a whole, having regard to the interests of consumers of sea fish and sea fish products. Defra sponsored the SFIA, appointing members and making payment for the board’s salaries. The remit for overseeing their work came under Fisheries 1B.
