Description:

Folios 586-588. Letter from W E Goodacre junior, [William E Goodacre junior], Clerk to the Guardians of the Mansfield Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Board, accompanying a copy of a certificate from the medical officer for the workhouse detailing a temporary change of diet for the inmates. The guardians have, by Article 10 of the Consolidated Order, resolved to implement the diet. A copy has also been entered in the board's minute book.

Copy of a certificate written by Nathan Cooper, [Nathan Cooper, Medical Officer, Mansfield Poor Law Union], dated 20 February 1849. He wants to replace some of the liquid diet with solid food. Details are given. Milk, porridge, bread, cheese, barm dumplings, suet pudding and pea soup are mentioned.
