Roger SIMON, aliases Lord SIMON OF WYTHENSHAW, James HARVEY: British. A local government solicitor and a Communist Party member from 1936, Roger SIMON joined the secret legal group of the Party in 1940. He was active while serving in the army during World War II and was kept under observation. In the 1950s and later he was a contributor to Party funds and a member of several of its committees and of the Legal Committee of the communist-controlled Society for Cultural Relations with the USSR. In 1958 he resigned his local government job to work for the Labour Research Department. In writing to the 'Daily Worker' and as joint author of 'The British State' he used the name James HARVEY
