Description:

Selected registered files relating to work by the Treasury Solicitor for the National Coal Board on the nationalisation of the coal industry. The files cover the payment of compensation to colliery owners by district valuation boards and related arbitrations.

The files contain evidence in the form of survey plans and production statistics supplied by mine owners and companies to the valuation boards or given in evidence at arbitration hearings. Some transcripts of hearings are also preserved with the papers.
