Details of TS 55
Reference: TS 55
Title: Treasury Solicitor: Registered Files, Air Ministry (AM Yearly Series)
Description:

Selected records from a single series of registered files of the Treasury Solicitor relating to work on behalf of the Air Ministry. The series was created in 1955 as the successor to an earlier series of Air Ministry-related files. It would appear that some papers from the predecessor series were re-registered into TS 55

The files touch on a range of aviation topics (mostly connected with the Royal Air Force), reflecting the nature of the Air Ministry's responsibilities. Subjects include: accidents to aircraft, claims for nuisance arising from aircraft, and conditions of carriage in RAF aircraft; airfields, airports and RAF installations; claims involving artificial rain-making; Anglo-Egyptian agreements; administration of sovereign areas in Cyprus; libel actions; salvage claims; trust funds; and the sale and letting of surplus land.

Date: 1946-1985
Arrangement:

The files are arranged in the order of their former references. The files were registered in a consecutive numerical sequence which was renewed annually. Thus each former file reference has the series prefix, 'AM', followed by two digits representing the year in which the file was registered, and then the file's own unique number, e.g. AM/62/236.
