The Housing, Water and Environmental Protection Division was created in 1983, replacing the Environmental Engineering Divison that had previously existed under the Professional and Consultative Staff Group. The Division was renamed as the Water and Environmental Protection Division in 1986. By 1988 it was organised under the Transport, Planning and Environment Group with the same title. After the creation of the Environment Division in 1991 its main concerns and remit were: water quality and regulations; coast protection and land drainage; radioactivity; air pollution and coordination of the Welsh Office's input into the White Paper on the Environment.. By 2001, it had changed its name to the Environmental Protection Division. |
