Description:

The records concern general and sectoral policy measures on the health of industry and employment measures for industry and agriculture. As well as the particular expenditure division files on manpower, the series contains the ministerial bilateral discussions between the Chief Secretary to the Treasury and the Secretary of State for Employment; these records were returned to the respective expenditure divisions by the private office from 1987. The records are technically termed as 'bilateral spending discussions' between these respective ministers.

The 'D-EGM' prefix denotes the registry theme 'Employment Group Manpower'.

Administrative / biographical background:

The Industry Sector, Industry and Agriculture Group and the Industry and Employment Division were created in in 1981. By 1983 the titling of the latter two bodies within the organisational structure had changed to Industry, Agriculture and Employment Group and the Industry Agriculture and Employment Division (abbreviated to IAE3). By 1984, division name had changed again to the Industrial Policy, Finance and Employment Division which continued to 1988.
