Description:

Folios 23-24. Letter from John Pearson and George Harrison, Overseers of Newcastle under Lyme Parish in the Newcastle under Lyme Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Board, enclosing a copy of the High Constable's Precept served on the previous overseers to pay the borough rate. The document, dated 3 February 1855, states that £860 6s 3d is to be paid by the parish of Newcastle under Lyme towards the general borough rate in quarterly instalments 'and herein you are not to fail on the peril that shall ensue thereof'.
