Description:

Folios 56-57. Letter from Thomas Day, Clerk to the Guardians of the Bromsgrove Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, complying with the request of 24 February, number 1892/B/43 [1892/B/1843].

The number of inmates in the workhouse on Saturday last was 231 made up of 48 aged and infirm men, 54 aged and infirm women, 9 able bodied men, 16 able bodied women, 12 boys above 9, 25 girls above 9, 39 boys under 9 and 28 girls under 9. Since Saturday, 7 paupers have been admitted and 5 discharged.

As regards their health, 34 were reported by the medical officer as being ill last Monday, of which he reported 13 on account of particular or extra diet being old, infirm or unable to take the ordinary diet, 6 with colds, rheumatism and asthma, 3 with bad legs, 2 with fits, 2 with venereal disease, 3 with bad heads, and one each with decline, bad eyes, spasms, bilious complaint and scurvy. None seriously ill or immediately dangerous.
