Description:

Folios 29-31. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission, to James Milward, Ipsley Lodge, Redditch, acknowledging the receipt of his letter dated 13 February 1843 declining to inform them of the name of the union and of the medical officer to which the queries related. The Commission understand that the queries relate to actual occurrences which have taken place and where Milward considers the conduct of the guardians to be wrong. Under these circumstances the Commissioners feel unable to respond without the opportunity to ascertain the exact nature of the agreements between the board of guardians and their medical officers which can be different in different unions. They feel that the duties of medical officers as set out in their recent general order will, if applied, be a sufficient guide to the medical officer in most cases.
