Theological Tracts Henry VIII

Documents (some formerly in SP 5) concerned chiefly with the Reformation and its advancement and enforcement - among them, sermons, parliamentary drafts and legislation, fragments of the Bishops' Book of 1537, as well as treatises on various theological subjects, including Henry VIII's divorce, papal authority and the royal supremacy. Most date from the 1530s.

The records may once have been part of Thomas Cromwell's archive.

Arrangement: Arrangement The series was formed from a larger collection of documents in thirteen volumes called the Tractatus Theologici et Politici (see OBS 1/801 /1).

Custodial history: The records were housed in the Chapter House of Westminster Abbey until 1843 when they were moved first to Rolls House and then in 1854 to the new Public Record Office.
