Description:

High Court of Admiralty.

Captured ship: L'Actif (commander John Chitty an American of Salem, New England).

History: a French privateer (230 tons, 20 guns, 123 men), bound from Dunkirk on a cruise taken on 23 April 1782 between Beachy Head and Isle of Wight by HMS Buffalo (George Robertson commanding), in sight of HMS Bienfaisant, HMS Crocodile, HMS Scourge and HMS Helena, and brought into the Downs.

Court papers: 1-10; Ship's papers: 11-13. [These are interim paper numbers, and are likely to change once more fully catalogued].
