Description:

Folio(s) 24. Draft letter from the Poor Law Board to [Henry Saunders], Clerk to the Guardians of the Kidderminster Poor Law Union, acknowledging receipt of his letter of 23 February relating to the appointment of Edward Perry, Schoolmaster of the workhouse. The Board cannot sanction the appointment until a salary is fixed. The Board propose to continue the salary at £30 a year but they ask for any observations the guardians may have on the matter. The salary can be regulated from time to time but the power to do this resides with the Poor Law Board and not with the inspector of schools.Annotated: no subsequent correspondence, 14 August 1850. No certificate yet awarded to him, 15 August 1850.

Call attention to this letter and remind the guardians that the appointment has not yet been approved by the guardians. The Board ask what salary the guardians suggest and trust the opportunity the guardians have now had for judging the quality of this officer will allow them to form a conclusion in this matter.
