DEBNICKI's long and eventful career included service in the Polish army, involvement in a faction of the wartime Polish underground, contact with the occupying Germans who facilitated his entry intoTurkey in 1943 with an espionage brief, arrest in the same year, interrogation by Security Intelligence Middle East (SIME) and repatriation, with his own agreement, to Poland in 1946, this suggesting some sympathy with the Communist regime there. |
