Incorporated as "Cromford Canal Company" under act of 31st July 1789 (29 Geo III, cap.74). Canal was purchased by Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midland Junction Railway under powers of their act of incorporation dated 16th July 1846. By Cromford Canal Sale Act 9 & 10 Vic, cap.290 (1846) and Cromford Canal Sale Act of 1st August 1851, company entered into possession of canal on 30th August 1852. The Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midland Junction Railway Company was vested as and from 1st July 1871 in Midland Railway Company by virtue of Section 44 of Midland Railway (Additional Powers) Act 1870. |
