Incorporated by act of 14th August 1871. Under Section 62 of Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Act of 15th July 1897, West Lancashire Railway Company was vested in Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company as from 1st July 1897 without any deed or conveyance and was to cease to exist except for purpose of carrying out agreement as to sale set forth in 2nd Schedule to Act.

Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company was amalgamated with London and North Western Railway Company under latter title as from 1st January 1922 under London and North Western and Lancashire and Yorkshire railway companies Amalgamation Scheme 1921 dated 20th December 1921, and London and North Western Railway Company was amalgamated into London Midland and Scottish Railway Company as from 1st January 1923 under North Western, Midland and West Scottish Group Amalgamation Scheme 1922 dated 30th December 1922.
