Description:

Folios 234-235: Peter John Douglas, HMS Reindeer, Sheerness. Encloses an acting warrant for William Stafford as Gunner of the Reindeer and a certificate from Commander John Fyffe as to his previous good conduct. Asks for the appointment to be confirmed.

Folio 236: enclosed with folios 234-235. Warrant signed by Vice Admiral James Richard Dacres, HMS Hercule,, Port Royal, Jamaica, dated 31 May 1806 appointing William Stafford to act as Gunner of HMS Reindeer.

Folios 237-238: enclosed with folios 234-235. Certificate signed by Thomas Stuart of HMS Hercule, S Smith of HMS Anson and James Howard of HMS Bacchante, on board HMS Hercule, Port Royal, Jamaica, dated 31 May 1806 that as ordered by Vice Admiral James Richard Dacres they have examined William Stafford for the post of Gunner and find him fully qualified for any ship up to a Third Rate.

Folio 239: enclosed with folios 234-235. Printed certificate from the Navy Office dated July 1 1809 that William Stafford, born in Anglesea, served as Able Seaman and Gunner's Mate aboard HMS Hercule from February 1803 to May 1806 and as Gunner of HMS Reindeer from then until February 1809.

Folio 240: enclosed with folios 234-235. Certificate signed by Commander John Fyffe, HMS Reindeer, Port Royal, Jamaica, dated 17 February 1807 that William Stafford has served as Gunner since May 1806 and been of good conduct.
